Bacterial leaf streak disease (BLSD) of maize has shown a continuous disease incidence in maize crops in South Africa and therefore potentially poses a threat to maize production and thus food security. The pathogen causing this disease, has been classified as one of the Xanthomonas sp. Few genomes were sequenced (paired-end sequencing, MiSeq, Illumina). The libraries were trimmed and assembled in SPAdes. Preliminary analysis of 16S allowed to identify the pathogen as Xanthomonas vasicola pv. zeae
