General elections 1958-2012

The results of the legislative elections since 1958 are available by constituency. The results of 1986, 1993 and 1997, of the first round of 1988 are available per municipality for municipalities with more than 9,000 inhabitants, those of the first round of 2012 for all municipalities and the second round of 2012 for municipalities with more than 3500 inhabitants. From 1958 to 1986, the results were aggregated by political trends with varying degrees of detail. The files were obtained from the Grenoble Sociopolitical Data Bank, whose follow-up was taken by Sciences Po’s Centre for Sociopolitical Data ([CDSP](http://cdsp.sciences-po.fr/)) in 2005. The files from 2002 to 2012 come from the Ministry of the Interior. The CDSP carried out checks on the files, mainly by means of consistency tests (e.g. comparison of the number of expressed and the sum of votes for each party/candidate), but errors may persist. From 1988 onwards, the results are presented gross, i.e. per candidate. The results for 1988, 1993 and 1997 were entered from the white papers, but the 1988 and 1993 files could not be completely cleaned up. In particular, empty labels must be completed from the variable “nuance”. The files from 1997 have been the subject of a job of cleaning the names of political affiliations and coding of candidates by the CDSP team (codes are not available at this time in the files concerned). Results for DOM-TOM are not available until 1988.
