Diel CO2 for 5 pre-alpine streams

This study on diel dynamics of carbon dioxide in streams aimed to assess differences of CO2 concentrations and diel dynamics at short spatial distances in streams. The CO2 was measured in the water and the air at three sites located about 1 km apart in five pre-alpine streams in Austria. Based on the data, the CO2 fluxes at the air-water interface were calculated and compared between calculations based on a fixed atmospheric CO2 value taken from an observatory (common approach in the field) and the measured one.Three automatic monitoring stations were set up in each stream that measured CO2 in the water and air, oxygen and temperature in the water and light and temperature in the air. The monitoring stations were set with 1 km distances among them and run for two to three days.
