Supplementary material for the thesis " Plio-Pleistocene carnivores of South Africa and hominin community dynamics: a paleontological and paleoecological approach"

Material This dataset contains cranio-dental and postcranial measurements of modern and fossil canids, felids, and hyenids (Carnivora). The fossil specimens come from the Plio-Pleistocene sites of Makapansgat Mb.3, Sterkfontein Mb.4, Swartkrans Mb.1, Mb.2, Mb.3, Kromdraai Mb.2, Kromdraai A, Kromdraai B, and Cooper's in South Africa. The modern specimens come from the osteological collections of the Ditsong Museum (Pretoria, South Africa), the Evolutionary Studies Institute (University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg) and the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle (Paris, France). Measurements Measurements are taken using a precision electronic caliper with 0.01 mm accuracy. Dental measurements are taken at the base of the neck. All of the measures used and their definition are listed in the LIST_ABBREVIATIONS.csv file. Files LIST_ABBREVIATIONS: list of abbreviations. MESURES_CRANIO-DENTAIRES_CANID.csv : measurements of 387 cranial and dental specimens of 11 species of modern and fossil canids. MESURES_CRANIO-DENTAIRES_FELID.csv : measurements of 267 cranial and dental specimens of 15 species of modern and fossil felids. MESURES_CRANIO-DENTAIRES_HYENID.csv : measurements of 292 cranial and dental specimens of 7 species of modern and fossil hyenids.
