Kalpeni Atoll is situated in the Laccadive Sea of the Indian Ocean, in the southeastern part of the Laccadive Islands—one of the three archipelagos constituting India’s Lakshadweep archipelago. Administratively, it falls under the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, India. The western and northern areas of the atoll are composed of submerged reefs, while islands are distributed on its eastern and southern sides. The geographic coordinates of the atoll’s islands span 10°3′25″N to 10°9′20″N and 73°39′36″E to 73°42′9″E. Geographically, it lies 72 km north of Andrott Island, 121 km northwest of Kavaratti Island, and 201 km southwest of Minicoy Island within Maliku Atoll.

Kalpeni Atoll is made up of six islands: Kalpeni Island, Cherlyam Island, Koomel Islet, Tilakkam East Islet, Tilakkam West Islet, and Pitti Islet. Of these, Kalpeni Island is the largest, covering an area of 2.49 km² and located in the southeastern section of the atoll. Cherlyam Island is positioned in the northeastern part of the atoll, with the remaining four small islets concentrated in the southern region. The total land area of all islands in Kalpeni Atoll is 4.98 km², and the total coastline length is 12.03 km.

The Kalpeni Atoll dataset was developed using Google Earth satellite imagery and maps pertaining to India and the Lakshadweep Islands. The original dataset consists of 15 individual data files, stored in .kmz and .shp formats, with an uncompressed size of 87.8 KB. After compression into 2 data files, the total size reduces to 38.6 KB.
