Thefocusofthisdocumentistoidentifyanddescribestrategiesfortheengineeringcontrolofworkerexposureduringtheproductionoruseofengineerednanomaterials.Engineerednanomaterialsarematerialsthatareintentionallyproducedandhaveatleastoneprimarydimensionlessthan100nanometers(nm).Nanomaterialsmayhavepropertiesdifferentfromthoseoflargerparticlesofthesamematerial,makingthemuniqueanddesirableforspecificproductapplications.Theconsumerproductsmarketcurrentlyhasmorethan1,000nanomaterial-containingproductsincludingmakeup,sunscreen,foodstorageproducts,appliances,clothing,electronics,computers,sportinggoods,andcoatings.Asmorenanomaterialsareintroducedintotheworkplaceandnano-enabledproductsenterthemarket,itisessentialthatproducersandusersofengineerednanomaterialsensureasafeandhealthyworkenvironment.
