Bitcoin and Ethereum Mining Hardware

This dataset contains mining hardware characteristics of application specific integrated circuits (ASIC), graphic processing units (GPU) and field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) that are used for mining Bitcoin and Ether. The data has been gathered from different forums, blogs and company websites. The dataset shows the following data:
1. Type of the hardware (ASIC/GPU/FPGA)
2. Release date or date when the information about the hardware was firstly published online
3. URL adresses, from which the data was gathered
4. Manufacturer of the hardware
5. Product name
6. Hashing power in Mh/s
7. Power in W
8. Calculated efficiency in Mh/J

Often, multiple links for a specific hardware item are included because one link could not provide all necessary data. Since a release date for some Bitcoin hardware is not clearly stated, the date when the hardware was firstly mentioned in blogs/forums is inserted instead. Therefore the actual release date of the Bitcoin hardware might differ but should not cause an error of more than six months. This inconvenience, however, does not apply to the Ethereum hardware since the GPU’s release dates are well tracked. The efficiencies are calculated by dividing the hashing power by the power demand.

With the provided data it is now possible to investigate the past development/improvement of the mining hardware efficiencies and to use it as input data to scenario models.
