In angiosperms, it is well known that R2R3-MYB transcription factors regulate the regulation of the biosynthesis of phenolic compounds. We have identified two R2R3-MYB genes, MpPAP1, and MpPAP2, that are orthologous to PAP1 (PRODUCTION OF ANTHOCYANIN PIGMENTS 1) in the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha. To elucidate their function, we generated overexpressors of MpPAP1 and MpPAP2, and conducted RNA-seq analysis on them.
