Haslams Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study & Plan

#AIMS OF THE CURRENT STUDY\r\nIn broad terms, the current Floodplain Risk\r\nManagement Study has investigated what can be\r\ndone to minimise the effects of flooding in the\r\nHaslams Creek catchment and recommended a\r\nstrategy in the form of a draft Floodplain Risk\r\nManagement Plan.\r\n\r\nSpecific objectives of the study include:\r\n\r\n* a review of the results from the 1999 Flood\r\nStudy;\r\n* consideration of the potential for culvert\r\nblockages and associated flood impacts;\r\n* the implementation of a community consultation\r\nstrategy, to ensure community input is obtained\r\nat key times throughout the study;\r\n* a description and quantification of the flood\r\nproblems in the Haslams Creek catchment\r\nincluding the likely cost of flooding to the local\r\ncommunity;\r\n* the identification and assessment of potential\r\nfloodplain risk management measures to reduce\r\nthe risks and hazards of flooding;\r\n* a detailed review of issues relating to planning\r\nand development controls within the floodplain.\r\nDon Fox Planning Pty Ltd has prepared a\r\ndocument entitled Report on Planning Issues as\r\npart of this study. It is reproduced in Appendix\r\nA. Included in this report, is a proposed draft\r\nDevelopment Control Plan (DCP) entitled\r\n“Managing Our Flood Risks”;\r\n* the development of a recommended draft\r\nFloodplain Risk Management Plan for the\r\nHaslams Creek catchment that outlines the best\r\nmeasures to reduce flood damage, based on\r\nenvironmental, social, economic, financial and\r\nengineering considerations.
