Oceanographic station data from bottle casts from the INGHAM from Ocean Weather Station B (OWS-B) in the North Atlantic Ocean from 15 January 1974 to 24 January 1974 (NODC Accession 7400472)

Oceanographic station data were collected from the INGHAM within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station B (5630N 5100W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from 15 January 1974 to 24 January 1974. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Station Data II Output Format (SD2). The SD2 format contains physical-chemical oceanographic data recorded at discrete depth levels. Most of the observations were made using multi-bottle Nansen casts or other types of water samplers. A small amount (about 5 percent) were obtained using electronic CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) or STD (salinity-temperature-depth) recorders. The CTD/STD data were reported to NODC at depth levels equivalent to Nansen cast data, however, and have been processed and stored the same as the Nansen data. Cruise information (e.g., ship, country, institution), position, date, and time, and reported for each station. The principal measured parameters and temperature and salinity , but dissolved oxygen, phosphate, total phosphorus, silicate, nitrate, nitrite, and pH may be reported. Meteorological conditions at the time of the cast (e.g., air temperature and pressure, wind, waves) may also be reported, as well as auxiliary data such as water color (Forel-Ule scale), water transparency (Secchi disk depth), and depth to bottom. Values of density (sigma-t) sound velocity, and dynamic depth anomaly are computed from measured parameters. Each station contains the measurements taken at the observed depth levels, but also includes data values interpolated to a set of standard depth levels.

SD2格式包含离散深度层级下记录的物理化学海洋学数据。多数观测采用多瓶南森采水站位（multi-bottle Nansen casts）或其他类型的水体采样装置完成，仅约5%的少量数据通过电子电导率-温度-深度（conductivity-temperature-depth，CTD）或盐度-温度-深度（salinity-temperature-depth，STD）记录仪获取。不过CTD/STD数据均按照与南森采水数据一致的深度层级上报至NODC，并与南森采水数据采用相同流程完成处理与存储。每个站位均附带航行相关信息，包括船舶、所属国家、研究机构、站位位置、日期与时间。主要观测参数为温度与盐度，但也可记录溶解氧、磷酸盐、总磷、硅酸盐、硝酸盐、亚硝酸盐及pH值。采水作业时的气象条件（如气温、气压、风力、浪况）亦可被记录，辅助数据还包括水色（福勒-尤勒色标，Forel-Ule scale）、水体透明度（塞氏盘深度，Secchi disk depth）及海底深度。密度（sigma-t）、声速与动态深度异常值可通过实测参数计算得到。每个站位既包含实测深度层级下的观测数据，也包含通过插值得到的标准深度层级数据集。
