16s rRNA gene amplicon sequencing for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease patients

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is prevalent in obese individuals and is the most common cause of chronic liver disease affecting one-third of the population. Gut microbiota dysbiosis is associated with hepatic fat deposition and there is emerging evidence that prebiotics and antibiotics improve NAFLD. In this study, we aimed to determine changes in the gut community structure across the treatment period of 4 weeks very low calorie diet (VLCD), followed by inulin supplementation after 1 week of metronidazole therapy in a group of NAFLD patients.
