Raw data for PhD project "Iterationen im Grenzraum"

These Excel sheets document the preliminary data I collected for my PhD project, which was later published 2021 as “Iterationen im Grenzraum. Akteure und Felder multikonfessioneller Herrschaftsaushandlung in Kronruthenien (1340-1434)“. I upload them here while I’m coordinating a project to bring my data into FactGrid (see VAMOD). Through this process, it became clear, how different internal data for an individual research project that ultimately leads to a printed publication is from elaborate research data following the FAIR principles. The primary aim of this upload is therefore to document a kind of “pragmatic practice” and to highlight the challenges that the emerging field of Research Data Management posed to “traditional“ analog historical research. The sheets are described as follows: (1) 180809_Urkunden_Personen_korrekt_Sortiert2.xlsx: This sheet was my initial place to collect all the charters for me period of investigation. Here, I also listed to person mentioned in the charters with their roles (issuer, beneficiaries, witnesses etc.) Later one, some of the names were standardized. (2) 180322_Identifikation_Objektorte3.xlsx and 180322_Lokalisierung_Empfaenger3.xlsx: These sheets were used to identify and to locate place names and persons within the charters of (1). The sheets are very preliminary, since I only added additional authoritative data, when the source editions were not insufficient. Many of the information were updated in the course of writing the book. See (4) (3) 190817_Ortstrias-neu-GESAMT3.xlsx: This sheet was compiled later during the research process in order to compare and to analyze different spacial relations within the data. It locates the place of issue, the objects of the legal act as well as the provenance of the recipients in order to understand dynamics of mobility within the negotiating processes that finally led to the issuing of the charters. (4) Ortsdaten_Repertorium-aufbereitet.xlsx: This sheet was compiled after the end of my PhD in preparation of the VAMOD project by Oliver Kurt Wedermann. He tried to standardize the place names mentioned in my PhD and my above described sheets. This sheet was then used as a starting point for my colleagues in the VAMOD project.
