Impact of wildfires on tourism and visitation in national parks: data

Researchers from Monash University (Jennifer Laing, Gary Lacey, Leah Stamm and Nicole Stanes) and LaTrobe University (Dale Sanders and Meg Houghton) collected qualitative data from three groups of people on the impact of bushfires on tourism that occurred in the Victorian Alpine region in the 2006/2007 fire season. Long, semi-structured, face to face interviews with 38 participants (13 operators, 15 actual tourists and 10 potential tourists) explored some of the key issues relating to the impact of bushfires on these different stakeholders. The interviews took place at various alpine locations across Victoria, as well as the Melbourne CBD and were recorded using a digital recorder and transcribed responses entered into excel file for analysis to identify common themes.
