The broad scope of this project was to map of the effects of dietary xenobiotics on gut microbiome and how they are metabolized by commensal species. In this experiment, the genes and enzymes responsible for metabolizing resveratrol by the human gut commensal, Eggerthella lenta, was assessed. RNAseq was performed from E. lenta DSM2243 grown in the presence or absence of 100 uM resveratrol in basal medium. Genes that were significantly upregulated in the presence of resveratrol were identified.
