Rehabilitation of Peter's Creek Floodplain

The Cairns Best Practice Group will undertake this project with the sponsorship of South West NRM Ltd. This project will fence an area of 7,600 ha with a 3 wire sloping electric fence to protect Peter's Creek floodplain, a tributary of the Langlo River. The fence will allow improved management of total grazing pressure on this overgrazed and highly vulnerable area and allow improved erosion mitigation and feral animal management. The project will also act as a demonstration site on the effectiveness of electric fencing in controlling total grazing pressure and wild dog movements and will be available for use in educational activities and for raising community awareness. Feral animal and weed control will also be undertaken.
