The SkyCam Dataset was co-created by the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) and a meteorological technology company, with the goal of predicting localized solar radiation through image analysis. The dataset contains high-resolution sky images captured every 10 seconds over one year by cameras at three geographical locations: the Jura, the Plateau, and the Pre-Alps regions of Switzerland, totaling approximately 1,576,800 images. Each image is paired with precise irradiance measurements. The development of this dataset involved the use of high-precision pyranometers and industrial-grade CMOS cameras, with images generated via HDR post-processing techniques. This dataset is primarily applied to optimize the energy performance of standalone photovoltaic systems, reducing fossil fuel consumption by improving the accuracy of solar radiation forecasting.
