Hospital-acquired invasive pneumococcal disease in south-central Ontario, Canada, 1995-2021

Limited data are available regarding the burden of hospital-acquired invasive pneumococcal disease (HA-IPD) in the era after conjugate pneumococcal vaccine implementation and during the COVID-19 pandemic. We undertook an analysis of HA-IPD in Toronto, Canada, in order to assess the epidemiology of HA-IPD.TIBDN performs population-based surveillance for IPD in a population of 4.5 million. Population data are from Statistics Canada, estimates of acute hospital days were obtained from Canadian Institute for Health Information.
