Sediments in the Wesley Chapel Gulf were cored to provide a stratigraphic record for
examining past vegetation. Ninety-five pollen samples were examined from this core to provide
close-interval examination of the paleoenvironmental record. At this writing, no information is
available concerning the basal date for this core, nor the approximate time period of accumulation
for the sediments. Frequent flooding and depositional hiatuses are noted for this area, creating
a sediment record from the historic era well into the past. Pollen analysis creates a record of past
vegetation for the time period represented by these sediments.
