Ectomycorrhizosphere is a hub where plant roots and soil microorganisms actively interact (ectomycorrhizal fungi and bacteria). They serve as a hotspot for microbes that benefit forest trees in a number of ways such as promote the formation of mycorrhizas, adjust nutrient availability, improve plant growth, and alter root-to-shoot ratio. However, the mechanisms that regulate interactions between mycorrhizal fungi, soil bacteria, and plant roots are poorly understood.
