UNESCO World Heritage is protected by convention from 17 October to 21 November 1972. This heritage is a cultural and natural heritage.
The most original feature of the 1972 Convention is to bring together in a single document the concepts of nature protection and the preservation of cultural property. The Convention recognises the interaction between human beings and nature and the fundamental need to maintain the balance between the two.
The World Heritage Convention serves to protect the natural and cultural heritage of each country of major interest.
Separate data: goods and associated buffer zones where applicable.
Each polygon represents all or part of a UNESCO site. In other words, a UNESCO site may consist of a series of polygons.
For example, the site “Chemins de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle” (code 868) consists of a number of places (Basilique Saint-Just, Dolmen de Pech-Laglaire 2...). Each place is represented by a polygon.
