The majority of plant pathogenic viruses are transmitted to their host plants by insect vectors. The corn leafhopper (Dalbulus maidis) is an important vector that transmits maize rayado fino virus (MRFV), a +ssRNA marafivirus, in a persistent-propagative manner. The expression response to MRFV is not available for D. maidis, and the molecular mechanisms and impact of environmental factors such as temperature associated with virus transmission are not well defined.
