The goal was to investigate population shifts of ammonia oxidizing bacteria in low strength and high strength wastewaters (human urine) as the pH regime dropped from neutral to very low pH values over time. This is important, because very low pH values are disadvantageous for wastewater treatment due to the volatilization of harmful nitrogenous compounds.
