Taking the coastal wetlands in northern China as the study area, the annual potential evapotranspiration of the region from 1950 to 2010 was calculated using the potential evapotranspiration formula recommended by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), based on 60 years (1950–2010) of daily meteorological data collected from 21 national meteorological stations within the study area. Subsequently, trend tests were conducted to examine the interannual variations of the calculated potential evapotranspiration.
