Research progress on the cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase gene family in plants

Cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase (CKX) is an oxidoreductase that irreversibly degrades cytokinins (CTK) in plants. The expression of the CKX genes is closely related to the CTK level, and it plays an important role in various physiological processes such as plant growth and development, as well as responses to stresses. Therefore, CKX genes have great potential for increasing crop yields and enhancing crop stress resistance. In this paper, we outlined the structural characteristics and distribution of the CKX gene, focused on the important functions of CKX in plant growth and development, and the regulatory mechanisms in response to environmental stresses, summarized its potential applications in agricultural production, and prospected the future development trends of the CKX gene, aiming to provide a theoretical reference for in-depth exploration and utilization of the CKX gene in crop breeding for increased yield and stress resistance.
