Ceramics of the Ottoman period from Ilok (Croatia): classification, morphology, and technology
收藏资源简介:
This dataset contains information on archaeological ceramics from Ilok (Croatia), dated to the 17th century (Ottoman period). Ilok is a town located on the Danube River, in the historical region of Srem. The town was part of the Ottoman Empire between 1526-1688. Ceramics presented in this dataset were excavated at two sites within Ilok Fortress: Ottoman Hammam (IH in the dataset), the geographic coordinates 45°13'25.68"N and 19°22'25.60"E, and the Church of St. Peter and Paul the Apostles (IP in the dataset), the geographical coordinates 45°13'28.09"N and 19°22'37.34"E. The study included ceramics from several well-contextualised waste pits that could be dated to the 17th century. The main aim of this study was classification and quantification of ceramics, as well as the description of their morphology and technology. Ceramics were examined macroscopically while macro-fabrics were recorded with a portable digital microscope. This study was conducted in December 2025 at the Ilok Town Museum as part of the DANUBE MSCA-PF project that addresses a regional-scale connectivity along the Danube, Sava, and Drava rivers during the Ottoman period (see also Živković, Bikić & Lučić 2026; Živković, Bikić & Podunavac 2026).
