The Enduring Legacy of Enrico Amaturo (1863-1946), Mathematician and City Planner

An often overlooked figure in the history of science, Enrico Amaturo has given his contribution both to mathematics, especially to descriptive and projective geometry, and to urban planning. In particular, even if they were not immediately implemented, the regeneration plans he conceived for some ancient quarters of Salerno, his native city, a historical settlement in the south of Italy, proved to be very effective and forward thinking, as the traces of his works and intuitions are still visible in the current lay-out of the city centre.
