Elevated Primary Bile Acids Mediated Gut Microbiota Dysbiosis Aggravates Intestinal Inflammation

We mimicked a high-primary-bile-acid environment in mice with colitis by administering cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid. Cholic acid was found to exacerbate colitis severity. To confirm the causal role of dysregulated gut microbiota in intestinal inflammation, we performed faecal microbiota transplantation into mice with colitis using faeces from cholic acid-treated mice. Mice receiving these transplants exhibited more severe disease compared to controls.
