Foliar fungal endophytes are widespread symbionts of plants that can affect plant growth and stress tolerance, but we know little about how these fungi are distributed at the community level. We sampled fungi from a target grass, Panicum hallii and asked whether those fungi were sourced from soils or neighboring plants. The fungal communities were characterized with ITS metagenomic sequencing.
