Space_Update: Earth Views of Space and Space Views of Earth

"Space Update" is an information and imagery multimedia treasure trove CD-ROM
produced by Rice University and used by over a million visitors at the Houston
Museum of Natural Science. Designed as a "point and click" exhibit for museums
and schools, but now available to the general public, it provides "the best of
the Web" safely, without the problems of a Web browser - the students can't
reach inappropriate sites or "get lost in cyberspace." Yet it provides today's
space imagery using either "push" or "pull" technology.

"Space Update" has five main sections: "Space Events", which gives news items
in space, plus links to online resources; "Astronomy" which has the best of
both space-based and earth-based astronomical images; "Solar System", which
provides the best images and reference data of the planets and their moons;
"Space Weather", which explains how the Sun affects the Earth's neighborhood
and provides today's solar and auroral imagery; and "Sky Tonight", which shows
today's star and planet charts (morning and evening) and brings images of
recent comets. All of these except Space Events can run independently.

Many activities suitable for learners of all ages (organized by national
science standards) are also included.
