To collect this data, an Internet-wide IP address sweep was conducted. Every IP address in the ranges allocated by IANA was pinged once by sending ICMP ECHO_REQUEST (PING) packet. If the response (ICMP_ECHO_REPLY) came, its IP address was recorded in this data-set. In all, over 2.5 billion distinct IP addresses were probed during this experiment.为采集本数据集，研究人员开展了一次全域互联网IP地址扫描行动。针对互联网编号分配机构（Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, IANA）分配的地址段内的全部IP地址，均通过发送ICMP回显请求（PING）报文完成一次ping探测。若成功接收到ICMP回显响应（ICMP_ECHO_REPLY），则将该IP地址收录至本数据集。本次实验累计探测了超过25亿个独立IP地址。
