资源简介:
This collection comprises images from an archaeological watching brief at Linton Hall Farm, Linton Craven, North Yorkshire. This work was undertaken by Eden Heritage in October 2024. The work revealed that the historic pond was constructed to take advantage of a natural glacial drainage channel. The pond basin was defined to the east by the natural slope of this channel, but earthworks were constructed to the north and west sides to separate the pond from the Linton Beck. The natural clay underlying the topsoil would have formed an effective seal, although it is uncertain how effective the earthworks would have been in retaining a significant depth of water as the pond was located at a higher level than the adjacent Linton Beck. It is possible that the historic pond was used as a fishpond, or as an ice pond, or it may have had multiple uses.
