Reprogramming of disease tolerance is necessary for infection defense during aging

Cardiac gene expression of old and young C57Bl/6 mice infected with the LD50 dose of polymicrobial sepsis and age-matched uninfected controls. 12- and 75-week-old B6 mice were infected with the LD50 dose of 1:1 mixture of E. coli and S. aureus. When the morbid mice reached maximal morbidity in each age group, the hearts were harvested from the morbid-infected, healthy-infected and age-matched uninfected control mice for RNAseq.
