Experimental adaptation of murine norovirus to calcium hydroxide

Noroviruses are inactivated by lime treatment, but it has not been elucidated whether RNA viruses adapt to lime, a commonly used disinfectant for fecal sludge. This project aimed at finding the genetic traits relevant to the viral tolerance to lime treatment. Here, we show the whole genome sequences of murine norovirus which were subjected to enhanced purifying selection over the course of serial passages with lime treatment.
