Bacteria that are pathogenic or commensal can both make cellulose and curli. Curli is in charge of the first attachment step in the early stages of biofilm development. Additionally, curli can interact with different host proteins to trigger an inflammatory response in the host. RNA transcriptomic analysis was performed to study the response of E. coli AR3110 biofilm after treatment with a FDA-approved drug.
