Biosphere Reserves are internationally recognised areas of ecosystems or a combination of terrestrial and coastal/marine ecosystems.As part of the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Programme (MAB), biosphere reserves are established to promote a balanced relationship between human beings and the biosphere.A biosphere reserve consists of three areas: a central zone, a buffer zone, a transition zone.Biosphere reserves, most often their central areas, are based on pre-existing protected areas (natural reserves, national parks, regional natural parks...). They may therefore correspond to a geographical object already covered by another layer belonging to the Protected Natural Spaces (ENP) in order to achieve specific objectives for the conservation of the natural heritage.

生物圈保护区（Biosphere Reserves）是国际公认的生态系统区域，或是陆地与沿海/海洋生态系统的组合区域。作为联合国教科文组织（UNESCO）人与生物圈计划（Man and Biosphere Programme, MAB）的组成部分，设立生物圈保护区旨在推动人类与生物圈之间的平衡协同关系。

一个完整的生物圈保护区包含三类功能区域：核心区、缓冲区与过渡区。此类保护区（通常以其核心区域为主体）依托预先已设立的保护地（如自然保护区、国家公园、区域自然公园等）划定。因此，其地理空间对象可能与自然保护空间（Protected Natural Spaces, ENP）所属的另一地理图层所覆盖的地理对象重合，以达成自然遗产保护的特定目标。
