In this whole genome sequencing (WGS) analysis of M. chimaera associated with HCUs, we describe the clonal dissemination of M. chimaera throughout healthcare institutions performing cardiothoracic surgery in Australia and New Zealand (NZ), along with genomic evidence for transmission of M. chimaera from a contaminated HCU to a patient, resulting in severe invasive infection.
