alpaca — A List of Published and georeferenced Ages Concerning Austrian geologic units

This data publication provides an openly accessible geochronological database of Austrian geological units. Designed for lightweight handling, the dataset aggregates georeferenced ages from reviewed literature, providing a uniform, citation ready snapshot of published ages without assessing individual study quality. Each record includes the sample name, the coordinates harmonized to a single coordinate reference system, the dated material, the used geochronometer, the calculated central age together with its error in years, and the reference to the original literature. When original coordinates are absent, locations are inferred from textual descriptions or sketches and assigned a confidence code. Rock names are harmonized into English while retaining original terminology as secondary labels; mineral abbreviations follow the International Mineralogical Association approved mineral symbols. The database intentionally omits stratigraphic/tectonic assignments, detailed methodological metadata, and interval ages to maintain simplicity and interoperability with GIS applications. Sources are limited to publicly accessible, reviewed works (articles, dissertations, master’s theses), with bibliographic references provided for each entry.
