Seasonal Nitrification in Three Agricultural Watersheds
This dataset accompanies the Vincent et al. research article in Biogeochemistry. We document nitrification rates across the four temporal seasons in three agriculturally-dominated watersheds in the Midwest, United States. Analysis demonstrates nitrification is a ubiquitous process, occurring during all seasons. PCA analysis demonstrates that organic carbon can be a potentially important source of ammonium for nitrifiers. However, elevated ammonium concentrations in impacted streams (e.g., agricultural or urban streams) did not correspond to increase nitrification rates.
