Ecology 2050-Lab 2-Dataset 4

This dataset was obtained on September 24, 2014 at the York University Danby Woodlot in sunny, 24 degree celsius conditions at 4:00pm. Adult and sapling Silver Maples were the chosen trees to be assessed. The diameter at breast height of both the adult Silver Maple trees and the sapling Silver Maple trees were measured in centimetres using a transect measuring tape. The sapling trees were defined as any Silver Maple tree that appeared to be less than 10'4 (approximately two times the height of the researcher). Following the measurements of the diameters at breast height, the distance between the adult tree and the sapling tree was measured and recorded. Then using one's hands as a tool, a sqaure was made using one's fingers and the percent of canopy coverage of the adult Silver Maple tree was estimated. This process was completed 10 times in total using 10 randomly selected adult Silver Maple trees and 10 sapling Silver Maple trees.
