Thornton Creek Water Quality Monitoring Program

Thornton Creek Enhancement Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to sustaining and building salmon stocks in Barkley Sound, as well as facilitating educational and research opportunities. The objective of the Thornton Creek Water Quality Monitoring Program is to create quality, long-term datasets that can be used for research and stewardship by building partnerships with other local organizations and indigenous governments. The rivers that we enhance and/or monitor support critical salmon populations and are susceptible to logging, pollution, mining and human impacts. This makes gathering baseline data on the quality of these watersheds very important. The program periodically collects physio-chemical parameters at 8 sites throughout 7 Rivers that feed into Barkley Sound.

This program is made possible thanks to the support in part from the Department of Fisheries and Ocean and the Pacific Salmon Foundation, as well as the partnership with Toquaht Nation, Ucluelet First Nation and Redd Fish Restoration. This project is funded by donations to the Thornton Creek Enhancement Society.
