Temperature profiles from MBT casts from the ESCANABA from Ocean Weather Station C (OWS-C) in the North Atlantic Ocean from 09 July 1968 to 01 August 1968 (NODC Accession 6800392)

Bathythermograph data were collected from the ESCANABA within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station C (5245N 03530W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 09 July 1968 to 01 August 1968. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html.

The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

UBT文件格式用于存储通过机械式温深仪（Mechanical Bathythermograph，简称MBT）获取的温度-深度剖面数据。MBT观测的最大探测深度约为285米，因此该类数据仅适用于研究海洋上层水体的热结构。每条观测记录均附带航次信息、观测日期、位置及观测时间。数据记录由多组温度-深度数值对构成，本文件中的温度数据以每5米的均匀深度间隔进行记录。
