High-Resolution Total Surface Currents

High-resolution Total Surface Current (TSC) radial velocity (RVL) estimates derived from Doppler Centroid Anomalies observed by the Sentinel-1A Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) operating in Interferometric Wide (IW) mode over the Western European seas. Instrumental errors are corrected using land-based reference signals and auxiliary telemetry information. The contributions of wind- and wave-induced motions to the Doppler signal are removed using an empirical geophysical model function driven by auxiliary wind and wave model fields, yielding calibrated estimates of ocean surface current radial velocities. The data are provided on the native SAR acquisition grid, with a spatial resolution of approximately 150 m in the along-track direction and 250 m in the across-track direction, and an effective pixel spacing of approximately 1 × 1 km.
