Cerebrospinal fluid metagenomes of humans presenting with suspected central nervous system infection

Cerebrospinal fluid was collected from adult individuals with presumed central nervous system infection without an etiological diagnosis at the time of sampling. Study participants were recruited at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa between September 2020 and September 2021. Shotgun total nucleic acid short-read metagenomic sequencing was performed using and Illumina MiSeq instrument.
