Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) is a rapid and effective functional genomics tool. BMV and BSMV are popular VIGS vectors in monocot species. In this study, we analyzed the responsive genes in leaf and root tissues of bread wheat at 21 days post BMV and BSMV infection using RNA-sequencing. Our study provided a list of highly-responsive genes in the wheat leaves and roots to each VIGS vector, which may serve as a reference for wheat researchers to choose the right VIGS vector when investigating some specific wheat genes.
