Research data for "ECB7396 Land West of West Newland, Somersham evaluation 2024: Cambridge Archaeological Unit Digital Archive"

The evaluation identified a substantial northwest–southeast aligned linear ditch of post-medieval date in the south of the site, together with a shallow undated pit containing charcoal. A series of east–west orientated medieval– post-medieval furrows were also identified in three of the six trenches. The ditch and furrows closely align with linear anomalies visible on the geophysical survey. The large ditch in the south of the site possibly delineates the northern side of a routeway/lane depicted on Cary’s map of Somersham (1789), which split northward from the current line of St Ives Road towards Manor Farm in Pidley, known as Barn Lane. The digital archive comprises PDF/A copies of the CAU grey literature report and Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI), a selection of site photographs (.tif files), post-excavation survey plan (.dxf), plus the site context register, and finds catalogue (.csv files).
