Vaginal microbiota: age dynamic and ethnic particularities of Algerian women. human vaginal metagenome

The composition of the vaginal microbiota is a key element for maintaining gynecological and reproductive health. Host genetics, and many other factors such as hormones, infections, diet, life-style and hygiene status are known to affect this composition. With respect to that, many studies aimed at understanding the composition of the vaginal microbiota in specific stages of woman's reproductive cycle as well as in the menopause period. With the aim to obtain an accurate overview of the vaginal microbiota from Algerian women, we conducted a meta-analysis on 100 vaginal microbiome samples representing childbearing and menopausal states. The healthy vaginal community and taxonomic structure were discussed, and the typical pattern was compared with those reported for other ethnical groups.
