According to a survey published by IPSOS in 2019, 54 percent of respondents worldwide believed that since technology allows for direct democracy, that the powers of their elected officials should be reduced so that they can have a more direct say in how their country is governed. 75 percent of respondents from Colombia believed that direct democracy should be increased because of technology, compared to only 32 percent of respondents from the Netherlands who said the same.
