Exploring models of care and interventions for older patients with trauma in Australia

The rapidly increase in the number of adults aged 65 years and older who sustain traumatic injuries poses a great challenge for trauma systems in Australia. A consensus has not yet been reached on which models of care are most beneficial in managing older trauma patients. This thesis examines trauma care of older adults in Australia, both in the published literature and from the perspective of clinicians at the point of care. Based on the thesis findings, recommendations are made to adapt trauma systems in Australia to provide better care for an ageing population.
