Ky KYTC Rail Mileposts

<p>Produced by KYTC in conjunction with private railroad companies. This data is to provide a general understanding of where milepoints exist as defined by the private owners of the rail lines. Derived from railroad annual reports submitted in 2013 for activity in 2012.</p><p>Download GIS data: <a target='_blank' href='https://ky.box.com/s/qlrrk8v8qsov3j7ilk45jvlqko8crgfc' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'>https://ky.box.com/s/qlrrk8v8qsov3j7ilk45jvlqko8crgfc</a></p><p>This file contains 2,799 point features representing railroad mileposts across Kentucky, maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). The dataset includes mileposts from 15 railroad operators, with CSX Transportation being the dominant owner (1,676 mileposts), followed by Norfolk Southern (NS) with 441 and Paducah &amp; Louisville Railway (PAL) with 259. Other operators include Canadian National (CN), R.J. Corman lines (RJCC, RJCM, RJCR), and several short-line railroads like Louisville &amp; Indiana Railroad (LIRC) and Kentucky &amp; Tennessee Railway (TKEN).&nbsp;</p><p>The mileposts span 86 Kentucky counties across 112 unique rail lines. Each feature contains attributes including the milepost ID, latitude and longitude in both decimal degrees and degrees-minutes-seconds formats, line designation, milepost number, county name, railroad code, and owner information. A field for XY coordinate issues allows for data quality tracking. This dataset serves as a reference layer for railroad infrastructure planning, emergency response, and transportation analysis across the Commonwealth's rail network.</p>
