Educational institutions; finance 1998-2018

This table contains data from the annual accounts of the state-subsidised educational establishments in primary, secondary and tertiary education. Primary education concerns primary education, special primary and special education, secondary education concerns secondary and secondary vocational education (mbo) and tertiary education concerns higher vocational education (higher vocational education) and scientific education (Wo). The educational institutions are funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and the educational institutions for agricultural (green) education until 2018 by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (EZ). As of 2018, the agricultural educational institutions will also be funded by the Ministry of Education and Science. The educational institutions are legally obliged to submit annual accounts to the Ministry of Education and Science by 1 July each year. The financial data of educational establishments in secondary and tertiary education will be published from 1998 onwards. The institutional data of primary education are available from the introduction of lumpsum funding: the reporting year 2006. Previously, these data were not available because these institutions had no financial accountability to the Ministry of Education. The data of special education is based on a selection of school boards from primary and secondary education. The selection consists of boards that only manage special schools. As of 2010, the financial data of schools in the Caribbean Netherlands are also included in the table: the islands of the Caribbean Netherlands have been part of the Netherlands as public bodies since October 2010. The Education Department (DUO) of the Ministry of Education processes the data from the annual accounts and provides them in file form to CBS. Data available from 1998 to 2018. Status of the figures: The figures in this table are final from 1998 to 2017. The 2018 figures are provisional. As this table has been discontinued, the data will no longer be definitive. Duo (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs, agency of the Ministry of Education) publishes annually the financial data from the annual accounts of all Dutch educational institutions financed by the Ministry of Education.
